Eight persons held for theft in trade fair

The Delhi Police has arrested eight persons, including two women, allegedly for theft, including pickpocketing, in the ongoing exhibition at India International Trade Fair grounds here, police said on Tuesday.

In one of the incidents reported on Sunday, two women were arrested while they were trying to take out things from the bag of a Smriti Thakur, wife of Rear Admiral Kapil Tikku, police said.

"The accused women Asha (40) and Sanjana (35) were arrested under sections 379, 511 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code at the IITF police station and will be presented in court," Deputy Commissioner of Police Trade Fair Kumar Gyanesh said.

 

Separately, an inter-state gang of pickpockets was busted and three persons were arrested. The gang members travelled all the way from Punjab to rob visitors at the fair.

The accused persons were identified as Vishwanath (40), Kunal (20) and Kailash (45).

As a preventive measure, police staff has been deployed in civil dress at IITF.
