A 40-year-old former convict was arrested with Rs 60,000 in fake Indian currency, police said on Wednesday.

Mohammad Hussain was taken into custody late on Tuesday following a tip from Anand Vihar in east Delhi when he came to supply the currency to his contacts, Deputy Commissioner of Police Meghna Yadav said.

He was released from Rohini Jail not long ago, she added.

Hussain admitted that he was supplying fake currency to his contacts in Delhi and adjoining states for some years.

"One of the gang members had met him at an autorickshaw stand at Nabi Karim in Paharganj near his residence and offered him a huge profit in exchange for circulating the fake currency," the officer said.

"To make a quick buck, he started circulating fake currency. Hussain was previously involved in a narcotics case," she added.
