The Election Commission on Tuesday told the Delhi High Court that registration of political parties was done with their full names, not with their abbreviations.

The EC said this while responding to plea by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) challenging the registration of 'Aapki Apni Party' as a new political party.

In its plea, the AAP demanded de-registration of the 'Aapki Apni Party' saying the abbreviation of both the parties would be similar and it may lead to confusion among voters.

The poll panel's counsel told Justice C. Hari Shankar there is no possibility of confusion as the registration of the political parties was done by their full names and not by abbreviations.

The court listed the matter for further hearing on February 22, 2019 asking Aam Aadmi Party's advocate to file counter reply to the poll panel's response.
