One-person-one-car will now be the norm in the eco-sensitive Taj Trapezium Zone (TTZ). Those seeking to register their vehicles must furnish proof of a garage or a proper parking slot.

These decisions were announced by the Taj Trapezium Authority after a meeting on Wednesday.

Divisional Commissioner Pradip Bhatnagar, the authority's chairperson, said vehicles older than 15 years will not be re-registered.

Car owners will be required to attach an affidavit declaring they have a garage or a reserved slot in a public parking. Vehicles will not be allowed to park on public roads or parks.

TTZ includes Mathura and Firozabad districts along with Agra, and is spread over 10,400 sq km.

The authority was created in 1984 to save the Taj Mahal from air pollution.

Bhatnagar said the air pollution level in the TTZ was rising. Around five lakh vehicles are registered in the district.
