Lebanon's parliament Tuesday failed to elect a new president for the 13th session due to lack of quorum.

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri postponed the presidential election session to Oct 9, MENA news agency reported.

Former president Michel Sleiman's term ended four months ago, but parliamentary blocs have repeatedly failed to elect a new head of state.

Earlier, 12 sessions failed to break the four-month-long presidential deadlock because of lack of a quorum, raising fears of a prolonged vacancy in the country's top Christian post.
