The Lok Sabha was adjourned on Friday for 30 minutes in the post-lunch session due to lack of quorum. A similar situation arose in the Rajya Sabha, where its proceeding was halted briefly.

In the Lok Sabha, the house was scheduled to meet at 2.15 p.m. but when quorum could not be met by 2.25 p.m., the secretary general announced an adjournment till 2.45 p.m. on the orders of the deputy speaker.

The quorum to constitute a sitting of the house is one-tenth of the total number of members of the house.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy, who was present in the house, rushed to central hall to find the requisite numbers of members but his attempt went in vain.

He was heard saying, there was no member in central hall.

The bell for quorum kept ringing until the house was adjourned.

The opposition members were heard criticising the government for this.

One of the Congress members said this situation continues every Friday.

It seems Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Whip of BJP in Lok Sabha Arjun Ram Meghwal are "weak".

Similar scenes were visible in the Rajya Sabha. However, the house was not adjourned here but the proceeding was halted briefly.

In the Rajya Sabha, the house was scheduled to meet at 2.30 p.m. but the proceedings could not start in lack of requisite numbers.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, however, tried his best to make the quorum complete by rushing towards the gallery and urge member to attend the proceedings of the house.

Deputy Chairman P.J. Kurien came to his chair at 2.34 p.m. only after the quorum was met.

With Friday afternoons being set aside for private members' bills, most MPs tend to depart for their constituencies after the first half of the day. This possibly could have led to the lack of quorum
