One person was injured while resisting a gang of dacoits, purportedly from Bangladesh, who attacked a tourist party in the remote Piyali island of the Sundarbans in West Bengal, police said on Sunday.

The dacoits decamped with Rs.75,000 in cash, gold ornaments, mobile phones and other valuables on Saturday night from the spot, about 70 km from Kolkata in South 24 Parganas district.

"It is the handiwork of criminals from Bangaldesh. We have asked police to nab them," said the state's Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim.

Twelve dacoits raided the hotel where the four families from Behala area in Kolkata's southwestern outskirts had checked in, police said.

One of the tourists was shot at by the dacoits when he tried to put up resistance. He has been hospitalised.
