Claiming the existence of terrorists camps in Bangladesh, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Thursday praised the neighbouring country for its action against terrorism which has helped curb insurgency in the Indian state.
"People helping insurgency in the state have their camps in Bangladesh. The present Bangladesh government has taken active charge against them which has helped in curbing insurgency in Tripura," Sarkar told media persons at an event organised by the MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
"While Bangladesh government has taken active measures against them, there are still several camps in Bangladesh.
"I know the Bangladesh government may not agree to that, but we have already shared this information with the central government," he said.
Claiming that the Indian government has been able to tackle insurgency, Sarkar said the issue cannot be tackled entirely only through the use of security forces.
"We need to take support of the people and follow a holistic approach comprising ideological, political and social dimensions in dealing with insurgency," he said.
Sarkar also informed about his government's decision to construct a 150-metre bridge on the Feni river at a cost of Rs.110 crore to connect the state with Chittagong port in Bangladesh.
