Militant killed, soldier injured in J&K gunfight

A militant was killed and a soldier critically injured in an ongoing gunfight between security forces and militants on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, police said.

Police said security forces started a cordon and search operation in Samboora village near Pampore town in Pulwama on Thursday evening following intelligence inputs about the presence of militants there.

"As the security forces closed on the hiding militants they were fired upon and retaliated, triggering the gunfight," police said, adding two militants are reportedly hiding in the village.

Exchange of fire was still on at 9 p.m., police said.
