Oscar-winning actor Christopher Plummer will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Canadian Screen Awards, set to take place on March 12 here.

"Plummer is one of the greatest actors of his generation who has delighted audiences with his iconic performances. We are elated to have him as this year's distinct guest of honour," Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television chair Martin Katz said of Plummer's nearly 60-year career, reports hollywoodreporter.com.

The 87-year-old, who was raised in Montreal and launched his career on stage, has been acting in movies since getting a part in Sidney Lumet's 1958 film "Stage Struck".

He won a best supporting actor Oscar in 2010 for his role in "Beginners".

His other movie credits include the 1965 Oscar winner "The Sound of Music", "The Man Who Would Be King", "The Insider", "A Beautiful Mind" and "Inside Man".

His TV credits include "The Thorn Birds" and "Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight".

The actor's upcoming movies include David Leveaux's World War II drama "The Exception" and "The Man Who Invented Christmas".
