Police in Pakistan on Tuesday were engaged in a scuffle with blind protesters thwarting their attempt to enter the Punjab Assembly session to record their protest against being denied job quotas.

The protesters had been staging a sit-in since Monday outside the Punjab Assembly in Lahore to remind the provincial government of its promise to grant them a quota in government jobs and regularise their service, Dawn reported.

The protesters attempted to enter the ongoing session at the Punjab Assembly but encountered baton-charging police officers who engaged in a scuffle with the protesters.

The blind protesters struck the policemen with their white canes.

A similar instance of violence between Lahore police and blind protesters took place in December last year. The protesters were beaten by baton-wielding police as they staged a rally to advocate for their rights on World Disability Day on December 3.
