The husband and son of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal sarpanch or village chief have been booked for allegedly slapping and jostling a pregnant nurse at a private hospital in Moga district, an official said on Friday.

A case has been registered against sarpanch Daljit Kaur's husband Paramjit Singh and their son Gurjeet Singh. Daljit Kaur is the sarpanch of Alamwala village in the district.

Confirming the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Snehdeep Sharma told IANS that the accused have been booked.

The duo was booked after a video went viral on social media, showing them assaulting nurse Ramandeep Kaur, who eight weeks pregnant, at Gupta Hospital in Bagha Purana town.

The father-son duo was also seen on CCTV shouting at the hospital staff and then confronting the nurse when she tried to intervene.

"They slapped, pushed and hit me despite my pleas to spare me because of my condition," Kaur informed the police.

"They threatened us by saying that they were from the sarpanch's family," clinic owner Rahul Gupta said.
