Syria has urged the UN to take action against Israel for its attacks Sunday on two Syrian positions, media reported.

This call was made by the Syrian foreign ministry, according to a Xinhua report that citing the Syrian state-run news agency SANA.

"Syria calls for imposing deterrent measures against Israel which didn't hide its pro-terrorism policies and its premeditated intentions against Syria," the ministry said in a letter to the UN.

The letter was made public after Israeli fighter jets struck two Syrian positions in the capital Damascus, including a military post close to the international airport in the city.

The ministry said that all procedures must be taken in accordance with the UN charters to prevent Israel from repeating such attacks.

Earlier, the general command of the Syrian army said that the strikes reflected Israel's direct involvement in supporting terrorism in Syria.

This aggression stresses Israel's direct involvement in supporting terrorism in Syria along with other Arab and Western countries "to lift the morale of the terrorist groups, mainly the Al Qaida-affiliated Nusra Front and the Islamic State (IS) militants," said the military statement.

"Such aggressions would not dissuade the Syrian army from continuing its fight against terrorism ... on Syrian soil," said the army general command.

The military said that the attacks had damaged some facilities, but not led to any human causalities.

The Israeli air force has struck several Syrian military sites over the course of the country's nearly four-year-old conflict.

Israeli missiles struck a research centre near Damascus in May last year, and another site in January also last year.
