At least three policemen were killed in an ambush by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), a security official said Friday.

According to the official, the incident occurred Thursday in Cauca Valley when the policemen, members of highway patrol were on duty, Xinhua reported.

An explosive device was activated near the entrance to El Bordo township and then the three policemen were killed by gunfire, the official said.

The Colombian government began peace talks with FARC, the country's largest rebel group, in December 2012 in Cuba.

The government and the FARC have reached deals on three points of the six-point peace agenda: eliminating illicit drug trafficking, land reforms and political engagement with rebel groups.

The latest round of peace talks are underway in Cuba.
