Tokyo stocks lost ground in the early trading on Wednesday as investors were in a risk averse mood following Turkey shooting down a Russian jet a day earlier.
As of 9.15 a.m. (local time), the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 85. 66 points, or 0.43 percent, from Tuesday to 19,839.23, while the broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 8.62 points, or 0.54 percent, to 1,597.32, Xinhua reported.
Notable decliners in early trading comprised securities, precision instruments and air transport-linked shares.
