Minding his language

Being the country’s food minister involves talking to farmers across the Hindi heartland of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Many of the journalists on the beat also belong to the Hindi belt, so for someone from the deep south, communication can be difficult. But Food Minister K V Thomas, who is from Kerala, has taken the challenge head-on and, we understand, is now taking Hindi lessons to brush up his skills.
