Sonia Gandhi publicly said that Uttar Pradesh didn’t get a cabinet minister because of Rahul Gandhi. Now it is learnt that other Youth Congress (YC) leaders like Meenakshi Natarajan and Ashok Tanwar who won the 2009 Lok Sabha elections were also not made ministers at the young Gandhi’s insistence. According to sources in the Congress, the young Gandhi, who took special interest to ensure more young candidates got Lok Sabha tickets, also emphatically conveyed to party President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that these newcomers should not be made ministers so that they can work for the party. For Gandhi, rebuilding the organisation is the most important task, which is why he did not accept a ministerial berth for himself.
