The Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena (BJP-SS) government in Maharashtra plans to revive ‘Advantage Maharashtra,’ an exhibition-cum-investors meet.

The proposed event will be on the lines of Vibrant Gujarat, brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when chief minister, and the Global Investors Summit organised by the Madhya Pradesh government.

The BJP-SS’ first stint in government between 1995 and 1999 had organised such an event, in which investors from and outside India had participated.

However, during its 15-year rule, the successor Congress-Nationalist Congress government did not hold  such a meet.

Industries minister Subhash Desai told Business Standard: “Maharashtra is the number one state in industrialisation and in attracting both domestic and foreign direct investments. Our competition is mainly with countries from South Asia and other parts of the world. Let other states step up efforts to keep pace with Maharashtra. The government will organise an exhibition-cum-conference to showcase Maharashtra's pre-eminence. It will also help involve investors in the state government's ‘Make in Maharashtra’ programme in a big way.”

He said the state had already received 130 projects with a combined investment of Rs 6,500 crore since the government was formed on October 31. Desai has begun a tour to all 36 districts of the state to check the ground realities.

He said a committee headed by the chief minister had been set up to make the investment process friendly and transparent.

“As a beginning, the government has taken a decision to reduce the number of licences/permission to 25 from the present level of 76,” he added. Also, a cabinet sub-committee chaired by the chief minister and another headed by the chief secretary have been formed to bring more procedural changes to attract investment.

Desai said it was possible for a developer to launch a project within two months of a proposal to the government.
