A Florida hospital says a child has died from injuries suffered when a car slammed into an Orlando-area day care center.

A spokeswoman for Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children said she couldn't release any more information about the victim, including the age and gender. One person at the hospital is in critical condition and five others in serious condition. One has been discharged.

Overall, 12 children and at least one adult were hurt. Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Wanda Diaz says a car went out of control after it was struck by a Dodge Durango, jumped a curb and smashed into the daycare, breaking through the wall and into the building. That driver wasn't hurt.

The Durango fled the scene but was located almost two hours later without the driver.
