Fourteen boys who were being lured to join militancy were apprehended and counselled by the police, following which they were today handed over to their families in south Kashmir's Pulwama district.

"Police through reliable sources got information about the concerted attempts to lure and recruit youth into militancy. Following this, police conducted discreet inquiry and apprehended one person," a police spokesman said here.

He said questioning of the person led to the identification of 14 boys who were being lured to join militants.

"During the questioning of these boys, it came to fore that they were planning to join militant ranks. Incidentally, none of their parents were aware of their activities," the spokesman said.

He said the boys were subsequently handed over to their parents after proper counseling.
