2.49 kg heroin seized

The customs

department has seized 2.49 kg heroin from a New Delhi-bound train at Purnia railway station, officials said today.

Acting on a tip off, the customs team searched a luggage storage rack in an AC coach of 12487 Jogbani-Anand Vihar Express last night and recovered the haul of contraband consignment contained in three packages, Customs' Assistant Superintendent Kumar Jyotiraditya said.

The contraband was made in Thailand and carried a label of Tiger brand, he said adding it was valued at about Rs 2.5 crore in international market.

The heroin consignment was brought from Nepal and was being sent by the train for delivery to a client in New Delhi, Jyotiraditya said adding no arrest could be made in this connection.
