Two gram sevaks of a panchayat samiti here have been suspended for alleged irregularities in maintaining muster registers of MGNREGA beneficiaries.

An inquiry was recently conducted following complaints of irregularities in the maintenance of muster registers of labourers working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MNREGA), Yavatmal zila parishad CEO Dr Mallinath Kalshetty said.

Ten gram sevaks attached to the Pusad panchayat samiti and its then block development officer (BDO) were found guilty following the probe, he said.

Several gram sevaks allegedly used the muster registers of other gram panchayats and prepared it manually as against the established norm of using the e-muster registers. They also did not obtain permission from their superiors for using the manually prepared muster registers.

Kalshetty yesterday ordered the suspension of gram sevaks SD Hingade of Dahiwad-Asoli village and KB Sontakke of Pardi. He also recommended departmental inquiry into the allegations against eight other gram sevaks and the then BDO.

Action is likely against the guilty under provisions of the MGNREGA Act which includes a fine of Rs 1,000, and also a departmental inquiry against the officers and employees involved in the scam, he added.
