Slovakia's government says two Slovak nationals were among the 10 foreign climbers who were killed over the weekend by Islamic militants at the base of one of the world's tallest mountains in northern Pakistan.

Prime Minister Robert Fico says his government had only officially confirmed the deaths of the two men today. Fico says the Pakistani government has offered to transport the bodies of the two to Slovakia.

Fico offered his sympathy to the families of the victims and condemned the terrorist attack, saying nothing can justify it.

The Pakistani Taliban said it carried out the attack at Nanga Parbat to avenge the death of their deputy leader in a US drone strike last month.

Interior Minister Robert Kalinak said the two were mountain rescuers but didn't give their names.
