Four persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of two of their associates, whose bodies were recovered two days ago from a remote ghat area in the district.

"The four accused, identified as Nikhil Madhukar Nikumbh, Sunny, Prince Chitrasen Singh and Vatan Shivaji Pawar were arrested yesterday," Deputy Superintendent of Police (Kalwan division) Sachin Gunjal and Rural Police Crime Branch Police Inspector Kishor Navale said in a release.

Police had on Friday recovered decomposed bodies of two youths, identified as Arjun Avhad and Nikhil Gawali, from Torangan ghat in Trimbakeshwar tehsil here.

Avhad, Gawali and the accused persons were members of a social group run by a corporator, they said.

All the six persons had on December 31 gone to a hotel near the Vaitarna dam here to celebrate the birthday of Prince Singh, where an argument took place among them, they said.

Following the dispute, Avhad and Gawali returned to the social group's office located at Jagtapwadi here and went to sleep, the police officials said.

The accused also reached the office where they shot dead Avhad and Gawali. They then carried the bodies in a car to Torangan ghat and dumped them there, they said.

The four persons, all residents of Nashik, were arrested yesterday and the car used in the crime was impounded, they said.

Police said the post-mortem revealed that the duo were shot in their heads at close range.

Cases have been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the IPC and the Arms Act, they said, adding they would be produced in the court today.
