A case has been lodged against 44 persons for allegedly making fake calls to the local police control room here, police said today.

"In the case registered yesterday evening, these people have been charged with making blank calls, using obscene and abusive language with women operators at the control room and hindering government work," station officer of Kotwali police station JN Sharma said, adding that they will be arrested soon.

On December 14, 100 people were arrested and 400 were charged with the same crime.

The hi-tech police control room with helpline number 100 was inaugurated by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on October 18, 2013.

According to SSP Yashaswi Yadav, the control room receives nearly 4,500 calls every day, out of which 3,900 are fake. Some of these callers use obscene language with women operators, while others give misleading information, he said, adding that some people also make blank calls.

Cases have been registered against nearly 2000 people in the month of December alone, he said.
