49 camels seized, two smugglers held

The camels were seized and the duo arrested after they failed to produce valid papers, Superintendent of Police Shivdeep Lande said.

The camels were being taken on foot to Bangladesh, he said.

Animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi has been contacted to suggest relocation of the camels, the SP said.

The smugglers, hailing from Rajasthan, are being interrogated, he said.
