55th anniversary of Tibetan Women's Uprising Day observed

The Tibetan Women's Association (TWA) today commemorated the 55th anniversary of Tibetan Women's Uprising Day, and took out a huge procession here.
The TWA launched an online petition addressed to United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay and president of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy.
The petition urges governments and the people to impress upon the Chinese government to response to negotiations with representatives of the Dalai Lama.

We pledge to dedicate ourselves to work for human rights, peace and freedom in Tibet and other regions of the world where peace is held hostage by brutal regimes."
The TWA is the second largest Tibetan non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in exile in Dharamsala.
This year, the TWA announced a fellowship programme for young women pursuing professional studies. The fellowship will be imparted to the target group through an international foundation, Dolma said.
