60-year-old's plans to remarry thwarted by first wife

A 60-year-old man's plans to marry a younger woman was thwarted after his wife barged into the wedding venue with their seven children in tow and thrashed the groom.

Rayeez Ahmed, a resident of Pukhrayan reached Naubasta's Hanspuram area here yesterday to marry a 28-year-old woman, following which Naima Begum, his first wife reached the venue with their seven children and stopped the wedding by beating the groom and party, police said today.

Naima was living at her parental house in Auraiya district along with her children after being thrown out of the house by her husband owing to an argument between them few months back, they said.
 

After the two parties reached a compromise, the police, who had taken the entire marriage party to the police station, released them.

Meanwhile, the man agreed to pay back Rs 1.5 lakh spent by the bride's family on the wedding, they added.
