Eight persons were arrested and over 82 cartons of smuggled liquor seized from them in separate incidents in the district by the excise department, police said.
In the first incident, the excise team stopped a vehicle on the expressway last night and seized 62 cartons of smuggled liquor from it, said Kuldeep Yadav, District Excise Officer, adding, two persons, Harish Verma and Kamal Sharma, were arrested.
In a similar crackdown, police arrested two liquor smugglers, identified as Jitender and Amit, and seized 20 cartons of smuggled liquor from their possession, Yadav said.
In the third incident, police arrested two liquor smugglers, Tejvir and Sanju, and seized 36 bottles and 96 quarter bottles smuggled liquor from them, he said.
One Raju from Chhijarsi area and was arrested and 40 quarter bottles of smuggled liquor was seized from him.
Another person, identified as Lov Kumar, was arrested from near Expo Mart and 40 quarter bottles of smuggled liquor seized from him, the officer said.
