Active research should be done in finding new drug compounds for emerging unknown diseases, Senior Principal Scientist of National Institute of Animal Welfare, Haryana, Dr K N Gowal said today.
Addressing a two-day seminar on Animal Welfare and Ethics at Karunya University here, Gowal said there was a sudden spurt of unknown diseases of late and the reasons behind them were unknown.
In this scenario, budding scientists and students should come forward and find the required medicine to cure such diseases, he said.

Gowal urged research scholars and students, who work with animals, to treat them in a humanly and safe manner, adding that animals should not be physically tortured for research purposes.
Food products made from animals should follow a safe procedure, wherein unethical exploiting and killing should be kept to the minimal, he said.
The seminar is jointly sponsored by Indian Council for Medical Research, Department of Science and Technology and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Delhi, in which 120 scientists are participating.
