The Uttar Pradesh government is serious about security of women and has taken a clutch of measures, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said today, and also asked women to come forward and get trained in martial arts.
He said that directives have been issued to provide martial arts training in all the schools and colleges to prepare girl students for self defence.
"The state government is serious about security and safety of women and has taken a number of measures," Yadav said after meeting the members of UP team, which participated in ninth Kung Fu competition.

So far, martial arts training has been given to around 10,000 girl students for self defence, he said.
The chief minister appealed the women to become self reliant for their safety and assured all the help from the government.
