The Aligarh Muslim University today suspended four students for their alleged involvement in a clash between two student groups which took place last week.
A memo issued by University Proctor Jamshed Siddiqui said the students had been suspended on the basis of their prima facie involvement in the August 20 incident.
The varsity campus had been declared out of bound for them, it said.
On Saturday, AMU Vice chancellor Lt Gen (Retd) Zameer Uddin Shah warned that elections to the students' union slated for mid-September could be postponed if incidents of violence continued in and around the campus.
