Anticipatory bail granted to BJP candidate for Feb 13 bypoll

The Madras High court bench here today granted anticipatory bail to M Subramaniam, BJP candidate for the Srirangam bypoll, and two others against whom a case was filed in connection with clash between BJP and AIADMK in the constituency on February 8.

Besides Subramaniam, anticipatory bail was also granted to District president of the party Parthiban and Vice-President Govindarajan.

The petitioners alleged that though they were not at the scene of the clash, police had included their name in the case for political reasons.

Police registered the case against nine persons, including the BJP candidate, on a complaint given by AIADMK workers Pachaiappan who was injured in the clash.
 

Justice P.N.Prakash, who granted anticipatory bail, asked the petitioners to cooperate in the investigation.
