Arrests of burglers to help police solve around 40 theft cases

Police Commissioner E Radhakrishnan said here today that arrests of Karan Rajput and his brother Arjun Rajput (both brothers) from Harni Chokdi area in the city late last night would help the police solve about 40 theft cases as well as other crimes reported from the city.

Talking to reporters here today, Radhakrishnan said, "The crime branch led by the joint commissioner of police had kept watch on them and recovered stolen goods worth Rs 30 lakh from them. The police expects to recover more stolen articles worth Rs 50 lakh from them".

After selling stolen articles, they had recently purchased a house in Godhra town for which they had paid Rs 13 lakh in cash and used to visit the city at night to commit crimes.
 

A crime branch team had camped in Godhra town to keep a close watch on their movements before arresting them as part of a well planned strategy, he said.

Joint Police Commissioner D J Patel said that both the accused used to take help of two minor children for sneaking into houses after breaking iron grill on windows.

They used to open the doors, after which the accused used to enter the houses and flee after stealing various articles including gold ornaments.

Patel said their arrests have helped solve 28 theft cases reported from the city so far.

Both the accused who belong to Bhanvar district in Punjab, used to come to the city from Godhra town in the evenings, identify houses and burgle them late at night.
