An Asiatic lioness died of old age at the animal care centre located at Jasadhar, a senior forest official at Amreli said.
The animal was aged about 14 years and passed away on Wednesday, Dr T Karuppasamy, Deputy Conservator of Forest told PTI.
"The lioness was captured on December 19 from the forest area near Virpur-Gadhiya in Amreli district after it strayed into this village and killed a cow. The animal left the spot and entered the forest area after the locals gathered there to catch it's glimpse," said the officer.

"On her medical examination, the lioness was found to be weak, she was sent to the animal care centre located at Jasadhar where she was under medical treatment under the supervision of doctors," the forest official said.
"We tried to feed her by bottle and injections but she never responded to the treatment and succumbed to age related problems," said Dr Hitesh Vamja who treated the lioness.
Forest officials use electronic gadgets to monitor movement of big cats in the Asia's only habitat at Sasan and to detect if they are suffering from any disease or injuries, said the forest official.
