Bangla court sentences 3 to death for beheading mechanic

A Dhaka court today handed down death sentence to three persons for beheading a mechanic here in 2010.

Judge Md Rezaul Islam of Dhaka's fifth Special Court gave the verdict in the presence of convicts - Rubel, Rony Biswas and Roman. Each of them were also fined 25,000 Bangladeshi Taka (USD 320), prosecution lawyer Shawkat Alam was quoted as saying by the bdnews24.Com.

He said the convicts murdered and beheaded victim Rubel at a Hotel in Old Dhaka on June 6, 2010.

Later, Roman took the chopped head to the manager of hotel and demanded money, threatening to frame him for the murder if he did not pay.
 

The hotel manager informed the police and Roman was arrested with the severed head. The body was recovered from the ground floor of the hotel. The other two eventually confessed to the crime.

Defence lawyer Morsheda Begum Lucky expressed dissatisfaction over the verdict.

"We will file an appeal in the High Court," the report quoted her as saying.
