The body of a woman engineer was today fished out from the Jhelum river in north Kashmir's Bandipora district, nearly two months after she allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the water body here.

The woman was later identified as Mudasir Javid and the body has been sent for post-mortem, a police official said.

Mudasir, a resident of Ellahibagh Buchpora in the outskirts of Srinagar, was posted as a junior engineer in Irrigation and Flood Control department, he said.

She had reportedly jumped into the Jhelum from Old Zaina Kadal bridge in downtown Srinagar on May 7, the official said.

The motive behind her taking such an extreme step is not known but her brother accused her in-laws including husband of harassing her and demanded a probe into the incident, he said.
