The army strongman in charge of Burkina Faso since the ouster of veteran leader Blaise Compaore three weeks ago, formally handed power to interim President Michel Kafando today.
Lieutenant Colonel Zida presented a Burkinabe flag to the 72-year-old career diplomat Kafando, who waved it before the crowd gathered in the stadium in Ouagadougou, in a ceremony attended by six African heads of state.
Zida is to serve as prime minister in the interim government, ensuring the military retains a large say in running the country.
