Authorities of the renowned Sri Arunacheleswarar temple here have decided to ban bursting of high decibel crackers during the forthcoming Chithirai festival.
The decision followed the recommendation of a team of Archaeological Department experts who inspected the temple where the renovation work was going on. It was decided to renovate the temple maintaining its heritage structure.
The practise of bursting high decibel crackers was in vogue from time in memorial. When the presiding deities were being taken around the streets of the temple, fire crackers would be burst.
But the practise had been banned for this year as the renovation work was on. The high decibel crackers could cause cracks in the ancient structure of the temple, hence it had been banned for this year.
