India and Uzbekistan will soon sign a pact for cooperation in combating illicit trafficking in narcotics, drugs and psychotropic substances.

A meeting of the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Wednesday approved the signing of an MoU between India and Uzbekistan on mutual cooperation in combating illicit trafficking in narcotics, drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors, an official statement said.

The agreement will help in mutual cooperation in regulation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and in combating drug trafficking, it said.

It is an effective framework to deal with all issues requiring mutual assistance and cooperation in the areas identified, the statement said.

The MoU will facilitate effective institutional interaction between both the governments. The agreement, once in force, would help in curbing transnational narcotics trafficking, it added.
