A festival showcasing the myriad socio-economic facets and cultural assets of the north-east with an aim to bring the region closer to the rest of the country will be held in the national capital next month.
The festival 'Destination North-East-2016', organised by the Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER) will be held from February 12-14.
It is aimed at bringing mainstream India closer to the north-east, so that the rest of the country can better know about this geographical region and its culture.

It will display various facets of the north-east in its myriad forms and colours through programmes like the proposed mega events, Minister for DoNER Jitendra Singh said at an event held to release the ministry's calender for 2016.
The theme of the calendar released this year is 'Rising North-East' which is depicting developing and modern north-east.
The festival will include theme-specific business summit consisting of sectors like tourism, agriculture, food processing, skill development and entrepreneurship, IT, handloom and handicrafts, livelihood, micro-finance and start-ups.
The aim of business summit is to attract investment in all sectors and economic activities, Singh said.
Stalls are proposed to be set up which will showcase the best features of the north-eastern states, government programmes, scheme operational in the region.
The event will also give an opportunity to different sectors to deliver their achievements, issues, constraints and challenges.
There will be cultural programmes -- music, dance, and fashion show -- showcasing fabric of the north-eastern region. Food stalls presenting the area's cuisine would also be set up.
The calender, released today, is projecting various building projects and other developmental works carried out in each state of the north-eastern region, with the assistance of the ministry.
Out of the 12 pictures in the calendar, two each are from Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and one each from Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and Delhi.
