Case registered against 3 doctors of govt hospital

A case was registered today against three doctors of a government hospital at nearby Melur for alleged medical negligence, leading to death of woman after a thyroid operation left her in a coma for 38 days, police said.

The case was registered on the basis of a complaint by the woman's husband, they said. The couple have two minor girls aged four and one-and-a-half years.

Police said the woman, admitted to the Melur Government hospital under the Chief Minister's health insurance scheme, was operated on November 15, soon after which she went into a coma.

She was then rushed to Government Rajaji hospital here on the November 16, but passed away yesterday, they said.
 

Meanwhile, her relatives refused to accept the body and demanded action against the doctors. Officials assured them of action after which they relented.

Officials said the the post-mortem was videographed following which a case of suspicious death was recorded and a case registered against the three doctors.

Suitable action would be taken after the post-mortem report was received, they added.
