The central government will hold a review workshop with the urban development ministers of all states in next three months for effective implementation of the Street Vendors Act, Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri said Tuesday.
The Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Act 2014 seeks to regulate street vendors in public areas and protect their rights across the country.
Speaking at a convention of National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), the housing and urban affairs minister said that issues pertaining to implementation of the Act will be addressed during the workshop.
"In the next three months, we will hold a review workshop with UD ministers of all states in Delhi on the implementation of the Act," Puri said. "if there is discrepancy in its implementation in any state, it will be addressed."
Under the Act, all states need to form Town Vending Committee (TVC) which will work for the rights of the vendors and create permanent vending zones.
Several states and union territories, including Delhi, have formed TVCs.
