Nine movies across six Indian languages, besides Malayalam, will be screened at the 20th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK), commencing from December 4 to 11.

Leading the 'Competition' category is Raj Kahini ('No Man's Land'), a Bengali film delving into the grim history of the 1947 Partition.

Helmed by National Award-winning director Srijit Mukherji, the movie deals with the consequences of the arbitarily drawn Radcliffe line on 11 denizens of a brothel through which runs the line that separates West Bengal from East.

"The Violin Player", which is Bengali director Bauddhayan Mukherji's Hindi feature debut about a day in the life of a Bollywood session violinist, is the other film in this category. This section also boasts a strong field of international and Malayalam movies.

In addition, the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy (KSCA) has finalised a list of seven films that will be showcased in the 'Indian Cinema Now section'.

These are: Dau Huduni Methai ('Song of the Horned Owl'), a Bodo film by Assamese writer-filmmaker Manju Borah, Bengali director Debesh Chatterjee's Natoker Moto ('Like a Play'), Kutrame Thandani ('Crime is Punishment') - a Tamil film by Manikandan Mathialagan, Cinemawallah in Bengali by Kaushik Ganguly, Capital I, an Odia feature by Amartya Bhattacharya, Nanu Avanalla Avalu ('I am not He.... She') by Kannada filmmaker B S Lingadevaru and Bengali filmmaker Satarupa Sanyal's Onyo Opalaa ('Opalaa... The Journey of a Woman').

The movies were shortlisted by a jury comprising filmmakers Mohan, Joseph Mathew, documentary maker M R Rajan, screenwriter Deedi Damodaran and writer-critic Neelan.

The nine Malayalam movies, of which two feature in the 'Competition' category, have been previously announced.
