The road widening work on the Charmadi Ghat road now being used as a diversion route on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highwy after the closure of the Shiradi Ghat, would be completed within ten days, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim has said.

Passengers travelling in the narrow Charmadi Ghat route were having a miserable time since the closure of Shiradi Ghat on January 2, as they had to spend hours on the Charmadi road due to traffic jams.

Ibrahim in a statement here said the officials had been instructed to put up hoardings and signs at different spots and the main road alerting them about the road closure.

Though there had been initial lapses on the part officials, they had now taken up the work on a war footing after instructions were given to complete the work within ten days, he said.

National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) Executive Engineer Nataraj said a sum of Rs 118 crore had been sanctioned for the facelift of Charmadi Ghat.
