The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Telangana Police today registered nine cases in connection with alleged irregularities and misuse of funds of the Weaker Section Housing Programme in the state and formed an SIT to probe the cases.
Based on complaints from project directors and officials of the housing corporation in nine districts, an equal number of cases has been registered by CID.
"These cases are being probed by CID with a Special Investigation Team (SIT) formed consisting of 22 police officers from CID and 37 police officers of all districts of Telangana," said a senior police officer.

"In view of the several allegations of misuse of WSHP by certain unscrupulous persons... The Telangana government has ordered a detailed investigation by CID on the Weaker Section Housing Programme taken up during 2004 to 2014," said IGP (CID-Telangana) Charu Sinha.
Telangana government had earlier ordered an inquiry by CID into the housing programmes between 2004 and 2014 as a proper account was lacking for the construction of 22.40 lakh units which came up during the period.
