Welcoming the Centre's decision to lift the pollution embargo in Haldia, industry body CII expressed the hope that the move would not only inspire prospective investors, but would also give a fillip to the expansion plans for the existing industries in the port town.
CII eastern region's regional Director Saugat Mukherjee said: "We are happy to note that the pollution embargo in Haldia is being lifted.
"With the pollution level in Haldia coming down to below the cut-off at 70, we believe that lifting of the embargo in Haldia will not only inspire prospective investors but will also give a fillip to the expansion plans of the existing industries."
He said that CII had been been working to resolve this issue and had put forward "our views both at both the state and the central levels with a specific reference to environmental status at Haldia so that the moratorium is lifted to facilitate faster industrialisation at Haldia".
