A city-based laparoscopic surgeon has been selected for the prestigious Dr B C Roy award under the "Eminent Medical Person" category, for the year 2015.
Chairman of Gem Hospital, Palanivelu is receiving the B C Roy Award for the second time, first being under speciality development category, namely gastroenterology and laparoscopic surgery, in 2006.
Presently, Palanivelu has been selected under the category of Eminent Medical Person award, instituted by Government of India, the highest for a medical person and an announcement to this effect was made by Medical Council of India.
Expressing his joy over being chosen for the award, Palanivelu told reporters that President, Pranab Mukherjee will present the award in January next and the date will be announced later.
The award carries a medal, certificate and cash of Rs one lakh.
