Threatning to launch a massive movement against the state government, the West Bengal Civic police association today asked the government to re-appoint 10,000 civic police personnel who were sacked earlier this year.
"In October, 2013 without any official appointment letter near about one lakh thirty thousand civic police personnel were recruited as part of employment generation for the youths. We were given Rs 141.82 everyday," said Sanjay Porai, president, West Bengal Civic Police Association.
"Earlier this year near about 10,000 civic police personnel were scaked without any prior information. We do all the duties of regular police personnel but we are treated very shabbily and we don't have any social security," said Porai.

"We want the state government to reappoint the sacked 10,000 police personnel, give us social security and all the benefits entitled to a regular state police official. We should also be given proper training and the state should ensure our safety and security while on duty," he said.
