Severe cold was recorded at isolated places in eastern Uttar Pradesh with Najibabad and Muzaffarnagar recording the lowest minimum temperatures at 5.8 degrees Celsius.
While dense to very dense fog occurred at isolated places over eastern UP, shallow to moderate fog covered the isolated places in western part of the state, the Met office said.
On Friday, day temperatures appreciably rose in Varanasi and Faizabad, and were above normal in Kanpur and Lucknow. The night temperatures were above normal in Gorakhpur, below normal in Moradabad and normal in remaining parts of the state.
The Met has forecast shallow to moderate fog at isolated places over the state on January 22. Rain or thundershowers are very likely at isolated places over east UP and at a few places in west UP on January 23.
